Overview

These appointments are designed for prescriptive hearing aid fittings. Hearing aids at our office are all custom fit to each patients’ specific needs. We accomplish this by helping you determine both if it is time to pursue hearing aids and also which hearing aid brand provides you with your best results.

What to Expect

  • If you decide you are interested in hearing aids after the results of your hearing evaluation, you will be scheduled for a hearing aid evaluation.

  • During a hearing aid evaluation, you will have the opportunity to listen to three different hearing aid brands in a simulated noisy environment.

  • The performance of each hearing aid and the overall comfortability of the patient in each set of hearing aids is considered, and your audiologist will discuss your options for next steps.

  • After discussions with your audiologist, you likely will have a custom ear mold impression taken so the manufacturer can make the piece that holds your speaker.

  • About two weeks after your hearing aid evaluation, your hearing aid will be ready for your fitting.

After selecting your hearing aid, you will see the audiologist for your hearing aid fitting.

  • The initial fitting is an orientation to the hearing aids. You will learn how to put them in, take care of them, and we will work with you to optimize your prescription.

  • Typically, we see our patients two weeks after their initial fitting to finalize settings or answer any lingering questions.

  •  Both the initial fitting and the follow up are a collaboration between the patient and the audiologist. We value your opinions and needs when it comes to programming your hearing aids.

  • Your care is bundled into the price of the hearing aids, anytime you need to see us during your three year warranty period, there will be no out of pocket charge for the visit (accessories, molds, and wax guards may cost extra). There is no limit on the amount of follow up appointments you can make.

The cost of hearing aids is determined by technology level, usually divided into four tiers. Top, Mid, Low and Basic.

  • During your hearing aid evaluation, you will work with your audiologist to determine the technology level best suited for your lifestyle.

  • Payment plans are available.

  • Some insurance companies have a hearing aid benefit, but most do not. We will check your benefits prior to your hearing aid evaluation, but we encourage you to also verify your benefits.

  • At the current time, Medicare does not cover hearing aids.

A note on fitting over-the-counter prescriptive hearing aids:

New guidelines from the Food and Drug administration are currently being drafted for the sale of over the counter hearing aids.

  • Over-the-counter hearing aids are meant to be fitted without the help of an audiologist.

  • We encourage our patients to consult with an audiologist prior to buying over-the-counter hearing aids.

  • Any programming needed for over-the-counter hearing aids can be completed for an out of pocket cost to the patient.
