Overview

An ear canal blocked with ear wax (cerumen) can be the source of discomfort, itching, tinnitus, or even a temporary loss of hearing.

What to Expect

  • At Seattle Hearing and Balance, we utilize irrigation to help with the removal of wax from your ears.

  • In addition to cleaning out your ears, the audiologist will also determine if you need any additional testing to fully address any concerns you may have.

  • Ear wax removal is not always covered by insurance when done by an Audiologist. It depends on the insurance company and plan. Please contact your insurance prior to your appointment to confirm if they cover cerumen removal (cpt codes 69209/69210) and ask if it’s a covered benefit when done by an Audiologist (provider taxonomy code 231H00000X). If your insurance does not cover ear wax removal, the cost of the service is $75 per ear.
