Overview

If you notice slight dizziness or the feeling of being off balance with movement, this testing will provide you with information as to the root cause of your symptoms.

What to Expect

  • Prior to testing your balance, you will need to complete an audiological evaluation. Hearing can tell us a lot about balance and help us determine our recommendations or referrals. To schedule a hearing evaluation, please contact our office.

  • Balance testing involves a careful observation of your eyes as your eyes are connected to your inner ear balance system.

  • Testing can take up to 90 minutes so please plan accordingly.

  • Our office completes what is called a videonystagmography. During the test, you will wear special goggles with infrared cameras that allow us to monitor your eyes.

  • Recording and analyzing the movements of your eyes allows our audiologists to determine possible causes of your dizziness and treatments.

  • Testing your eyes is made of three parts:

1. Following a visual target with your eyes

2. Watching your eyes as you are in different positions

3. Watching your eyes when cool and warm air are put into the ear canal.

  • After reviewing your results, the audiologist will determine a diagnosis and if repositioning treatments are appropriate. Sometimes treatment can begin during the same visit as your test.

  • Follow up appointments are recommended 3-4 days after a repositioning.

  • Please reach out to your insurance provider to determine whether this procedure is covered under your policy. If you need billing codes or more information, please contact our office.
